Gladstn London Journeys to Dubrovnik

The Gladstonian Journal invites you into the stylish and exciting world of Gladstn London, sharing new experiences, connections and possibilities. We all have a weakness or two in life and ours is beautiful bags and travel! We aim to inspire you by exploring diverse aspects of modern life and curating a distinctive style, all enjoyed with a Gladstn London bag by our side.

In this Gladstn London Journey we head to Dubrovnik, Croatia seen through the eyes of our travel companion, Mad Dash our Italian leather trolley cases in Portofino blue. Dubrovnik is the “pearl of the Adriatic” and the perfect destination for taking it easy on a European weekend away. A must-see walled city, beautiful beaches and the perfect stop for those who like to cruise. And if Game of Thrones is your thing, then you are in the right place!
So where should we start in Dubrovnik?
It has to be a walk of the 16th century city walls!

Built around the old town of Dubrovnik and the seashore, the 25m high walls dotted with fortresses to protect the town from pirates are the perfect place to see and enjoy this beautiful walled city. Built between the 12th and 17th centuries, the walls are one of the most impressive and beautiful examples of medieval Europe. The 2km walk offers breathtaking views of the city’s terracotta roofs and the sparkling Adriatic. Go early to avoid the crowds and midday sun!

For a love of nature it has to be Lokrum island…..

his is a favourite thing to do - take a short 20 minute boat ride from Dubrovnik to the island of Lokrum. Bought by Archduke Maximilian in 1858, the island complete with botanical garden, monastery and fort and is a wonderful uninhabited nature reserve now made famous as a filming location for Game of Thrones. It’s the perfect place for a swim in the sea and a lazy afternoon walking and relaxing. Enjoy the peacocks and the amazing variety of plant life. You won’t want to leave so don’t miss the last boat home!

Everyday Journeys on the streets of Dubrovnik

Once you enter the old city you will find yourself immersed in an atmosphere created by the narrow streets, tiny windows and curious corners making it a great place to explore and unwind. For a journey into Croatian wine, stop by D’Vino for a tasting and leisurely lunch. And if it's all to much and you need to head for the beach then stop by Boccapiena on the way for the best ice cream!

And the beaches…..enough said

And finally the very serious question of where for our aperitivo! For us it has to be the terrace at the Excelsior hotel, Café Buza Bar at sunset or Fratello's for Prosecco!

A wonderful city of history, culture, tiny streets and the amazing islands and beaches -perfect for City and Sea. Have bag will travel! Enjoy Dubrovnik.
